Should Naps be Allowed in School?

When was the last time you yawned while in school or even accidentally fell asleep during a lesson? These actions are very common for teens between the ages of 13-18 as we are still growing and need our bodies to rebuild itself. This means school should incorporate a nap period within the school schedule.

Sleep is fundamental to the body as it takes this time to rebuild any brain cells that were hurt during the day. It also produces more brain cells during the sleep period so that you can go throughout the day more alert, welcoming the action of higher performance. This means high school students will be more likely to pay attention in class if they are able to become more alert due to napping periods. This could further make a better grade outcome for many students

High schoolers often have a full plate when it comes to their schedule. Many go to school all day, then come home and go straight to work until nighttime, then they are finally able to eat and shower. At this point in time, kids are often exhausted so when it is time for homework, they ignore it and go to bed. Others might have trouble sleeping due to the environment or other things like medication forcing them to stay awake. With this being said, a nap during the day can help make it to where kids are able to stay up and finish their homework as well as make up for sleep that is lost at night.

Not only will taking naps help teens become more alert, but it also helps relieve stress and better your mood. This means the angsty and rude teens might have a better mood toward people if theyare able to get better sleep. They will also be able to take away some of the stress that their full schedule is putting on them, which can also improve grades in school as well as attendance.

Some people think of taking naps as a waste of time. This is a popular belief as they feel as though so much could be done, educationally. As an example, if the flex period was put aside for a 30 minute nap time instead, many people would complain that there is not a free block to their homework or even other class work.

Lastly, others might disagree with the benefits of a nap period. Some feel as though waking people up during a nap can make them more moody. They also feel as though naps can make people feel groggy and lazy throughout the day, but of course this depends on the type of person.

So everyone can agree that sleep is important and most can agree that with some high schoolers, they are too busy to sleep as they should. This means nap time should be incorporated into the school schedule to better the teen’s performance, mood, and stress levels.
