Emmie’s Introduction
Ask Emmie

Hey guys! I’m Emmie Grace Johnson, and you’ve probably seen me a lot of the time on our newscast, The Stinger ON AIR. Well, I’ve wanted to have a blog where I connect and share different things with you guys like what’s going on in my life, weekly planning, different recipes, advice, just a variety of things. But in particular, I would like to have an advice blog. This to me creates connections with people that I may not know, but allows me to provide help and advice where needed. So I introduce to you, Ask Emmie!

Though I currently don’t have any advice being asked, I do want my first blog post to be about advice that I wish someone would have given me: Senior year.

While this particular blog post could be mostly directed to juniors, it’s for everyone. Freshman, sophomores, you guys should pay close attention to this post, too, because senior year comes fast, and before you know it, it’s you that only has eight weeks left of your senior year. Anyways, while senior year is a very important and fun year, it can feel very overwhelming, and discouraging at the same time. My advice to anyone is to start early. While you may feel that you have time, which you do, it’s better to start as soon as you can. Start early applying to colleges, start early applying to scholarships! Scholarships are so, so, so important, and if I could go back in time, I wish I would’ve taken my scholarship advantages more seriously. Scholarships are a HUGE part of college, and every dollar counts! Whether you decide to go to college or enter the workforce directly after graduation, you should start early on your plan for after high school.

Like I said, apply for colleges EARLY! Apply for scholarships EARLY! Apply for internships, jobs, doing it all EARLY! As early as you possibly can. If you think you’re too early, then you aren’t early enough. And please, please do not wait until the last minute. To all of my fellow procrastinators, please try your hardest to not wait as late as you can. You will feel SO much better if you start early. You won’t feel as stressed or overwhelmed, because you get to check a box off of your list! That’s what always helps me. As a procrastinator, creating a list of things that I need to do for the day, and then checking the box once I finished, allows a weight to be completely lifted off my shoulders. If you don’t believe me, you should definitely try it some time.

My other piece of advice would be to get involved with school. Try new things, join new clubs, make new friends! Get involved in your school and your community. It’s another way to connect with people of the same interests as you. Getting involved also allows new opportunities! Certain clubs can help you qualify for certain scholarships….just saying. But, student council is a club I would really recommend to be part of. It allows your voice to be heard. If you want something to be changed, join student council. If you want to add something new to pep rallies, join student council. It’s a great way to get involved with the spirit weeks, the back to school bash, the pep rallies, prom, and so much more. Being part of any club at school allows you to become more connected with your peers and your teachers. If you aren’t involved now, you should really look into at least trying a new club or sport.

In all, while your senior year is fun and allows a lot of opportunities, you should take it seriously. My advice to any rising senior: everything will be okay! Believe me, I understand the pressure and the stress that comes from senior year. Just remember to stay calm and have faith in yourself! Get involved with school as much as you can. Surround yourself with your friends, and soak up all that you can! You will be fine, and you will get through it. Don’t be afraid of the future, and while you may feel discouraged, have faith that everything will turn out the way it’s supposed to! Enjoy your year, and have fun.
