That's a Wrap...Almost

It’s Wednesday, May 14th. Technically, everyone gets out on the 28th, with graduation on the 29th. That means that we have nine days left. Nine days of studying, review, work, and then, end-of-the-year school parties. Nine days of torture… and then end-of-the-year school parties.

That’s almost nine days too many.

Hello everyone! It’s me, Landon Bryson, writing to you with the excitement and sadness of having to say that this is the second to last blog entry. I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be writing these next year, or if I’ll be struggling to get club points and good grades. But to be fair, I’m doing that this year, while I write these posts, so, who’s to say.

The BHS spring choir concert is tomorrow at 6 PM. Tickets cost $5, but make sure to bring some extra money for concessions, because who doesn’t love a good snack? Better yet, who doesn’t love a good snack while enjoying an amazing performance from the high school idiots that I call my friends? I love them all so much, no matter what mean word I say next.

This week and next week are the last few days of torture. Final exams are hard enough, but nothing says challenging like an EOC filled with 50 dumb questions to show how smart you are. English 2 writing EOC is today. English 2 reading EOC is tomorrow. The Algebra 1 EOC is this Friday, (good luck on that one)! The Biology 1 EOC is next Thursday, May 22nd. (Wish me luck on that one)! US History EOC is also next Thursday. Good luck to all EOC and final exam takers.

EOC’s are presented in many different ways. They come with many technology assistive tools that can be used to help the people who need them. For me, I do it all pencil-paper. That is to say, I use a brailler, or a braille writer. Basically, you put a piece of paper into the machine, you begin typing, and it puts the dots you type onto the paper. So much fun when you’re writing essays.

I get asked a lot about how I do tests, and how I survive doing them on paper like I do. I guess the reason is because, I know I can’t give up. I have a few reasons for not giving up.

Number 1. I have Ms. Fairfax as a mother. One of the strongest, most stubborn, most quick-witted people that I know who would absolutely kill me if I ever made a bad grade. I hope you’re reading this Mom, Happy late Mother’s Day.

Number 2. I care about my grades almost as much as my mother does. I don’t want any bad grades. I guess what I’m saying is, the things I have to do to get good grades are worth doing, because in the end I make the grades I want, I put in the hard work to get them, and I did none of it with a smile.

But that’s not just true of grades. I worked hard to get the confidence I have, I worked hard to be able to sing, I worked hard to be able to play the piano or the guitar, or the violin, (still working on that one, that one’s rough). That’s the cool thing about working hard, anyone can do it, they just have to want to do it. And if they don’t want to do it, you can’t make them!

Well anyways, that’s it for this week. I hope that I can hear about at least a few of you guys coming to the concert tomorrow, joining us as we wish our fellow choir seniors farewell, and just coming to have a good time! People are all so stressed these days and I absolutely get it. Take a little break and join us! Until next time, it’s your favorite blind Jacket!
