Buford High freshman Ashtion Jordan has a big dream about what she wants to do with her life after high school. She is already working towards it in the best ways she can, and it all has to do with one of her favorite things – music. She always loved music, and having a band of her own has always been a dream.
“One day about two years ago, me and my friend thought about what it would be like if we and our friends were in a band,” Ashtion said. “We didn’t talk about it for a whole year, but last year we started talking about it again and decided we wanted that little dream to come true.”
The band she is in consists of a bass player, drummer, and guitarist. Ashtion is the guitar player and one of the main singers. She is in the school band which helps her understanding of music. She plays the trombone and trumpet.
“We didn’t worry about buying instruments first,” Ashtion said. “We didn’t worry about songs – we worried about what our band would look like and the genre of the band.”
Making a band was much more than just making music – to Ashtion, she wanted it to have the right feeling and what she knew would be perfect. Ashtion thinks this is the year to get the band going finally.
“If I put my blood, sweat, tears, and other fluids into than I can get it; we can get it,” Ashtion said confidently.
Ashtion is ready to get the band going to start writing song lyrics and the music to go along with them. The band will be fully writing, playing, and producing their songs, the ultimate goal is to make music they and others can enjoy.
“Trying to get the right rhythm for the songs might be the hard party putting sound the lyrics that we wrote”
She’s ready to get the band going but is concerned about how they’re going to write the songs since they have no previous experience in writing songs and how to match the lyrics with the rhythm. She wants to make sure they get it perfect.
