Passion vs Practicality

Passion vs Practicality

Reality is cruelty. As children, everyone has had a dream they so long to achieve, whether it is out of reach or a possibility. However, as we grow and come to face the “real World”, we soon abandon those hopes and dreams for a life of practicality.

Is it really necessary to leave our passions behind to grow up? The answer is no: you don’t have to lose your spark to fit into our societal pressures.

Passion is necessary in so many ways. It is what drives us to continue, providing meaning and purpose. Take what you love, no matter how bad or good you are, and turn it into a superpower. If you haven’t found it, don’t look inside others to find it, because really, it’s already a part of you waiting to be discovered. In doing so, you’ll achieve an awakening that will open so many doors. Of course, there will be times when you lose your proposal and be torn between reality. Escape into your imagination. Don’t allow yourself to lose touch no matter how childish or stupid you may think it may be. Who cares what others say if it only causes misery? Don’t look back in regret.

Passion not only provides purpose and motivation but also brings joy. It brings refuge in times of misery. Whether you’re stressed or down, it brings an escape from all hardships. Without it, you would most likely be suffocated by the amount of weight you carry. Pursuing your passion, provides clarity and enthusiasm leading to a fulfilled and happy life.

Through all of this, it improves you as an individual. It increases your emotional well-being allowing you to navigate life smoothly by facing difficulties with a clear mind, transforming them into learning experiences. As well as increase your performance and creativity. Through passion, you’re able to grasp a deeper understanding of yourself, placing your role and impact towards the world around you in a positive light.

The reality is we live in a world where we have to focus on necessities in order to survive. We are often told to be practical and stick to a secure future, avoiding the fear of the unknown. You’re told to grow up and start figuring out your life like it’s that simple. That you’ll never survive or aren’t good enough to pursue your dreams. However, what is the point of having a secure life if you’re miserable? Yes, it’s good to be realistic but you don’t want to return to your job and life uninterested.

In truth, you don’t have to choose between the two, instead balance it to your needs. Align your future with your interests.  Find extra time to have a moment for yourself. Make it even a side hustle. In moments, it may become difficult but don’t let that stop you from doing what you love. It doesn’t have to be a huge part of your life, just don’t let your spark disappear.

Without a passion, we’re left in existence as a lifeless void.
